Light sources, such as vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) or edge emitting laser diodes, emit light in the near infrared domain. The light source is usually a diffuse source (flood lighting) that emits a beam of light with some divergence to illuminate the scene in front of the camera.
