With the advent of the 5G era, smart devices such as automated and industrial robots have improved our lives. ToF sensor has a good performance in terms of cost, perceived distance and delay, and has a stable supply. It has become the preferred solution for many smart device manufacturers.
With the rapid development of science and technology, products such as AR/VR, unmanned driving, and intelligent robot vacuum have entered our lives. The application of these products is closely related to the depth sensor. A depth sensor is an electronic component that scans the surrounding environment to generate an electrical signal that is sent back to the processor. The principle of the sensor is like our sensory system, which can perceive the surrounding things and transmit the perception to the brain, so that the brain can make judgments and make instructions. At present, depth sensors can be divided into three types by technology: structured light depth sensors, binocular stereo vision sensors, and tof sensor.
Compared with several other depth sensor technologies, ToF technology has the following advantages:
Cost is low. The use of ToF sensors can effectively reduce the cost of equipment. Compared with structured light sensors or binocular stereo sensors, ToF sensors are cheaper.
Detection distance is longer. The working principle of the ToF sensor is to judge the distance by counting the round-trip time of the emitted laser, because the loss is small and it can detect a longer distance.
Fast, the speed of light of the ToF sensor is faster than other sensors using ultrasonic waves, and it is less affected by natural factors.
